Elim was a place of rest in the bible, where Palm Trees surrounded an oasis.
What a welcome relief for travelers in the wilderness. This
cluster of trees brought shade and protection from the
elements. The weary sojourners found refreshing from
the heat under the palm trees, and rest for their weariness.
Are you feeling dry, tired and worn out from all the
experiences life throws at you?
Come to the oasis sanctuary under the palms and be revived.

(New American Standard Bible) Edodus 15:27
Then they came to Elim where there were twelve springs
of
water and seventy date palms, and they camped there beside the waters

Our Oasis

It has always thrilled me to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere for my mate and for those I love. It is just me.. I love color, texture and I do so love the seasons. Life is to be lived to the fullest I believe and that means not getting in a rut. The different seasons open up doors of opportunity for us to decorate our world in new and wonderous ways. We can let our imagination go wild with things to do to make each day special and unique so that we can look forward to all its joys and I so enjoy decorating. I have found that life is very short. I can speak from experience after many many losses of best friends, and mentors, relatives, parents and a husband. I have come to realize each day is a gift. It is important for me to help others through their rough times and perhaps bring a bit of love and color into their lives.

Many years ago while living in New York, I worked for a Home Decorating Company for a short time, I have always had a love for creating my own space. And my husband calls me the Crayola girl as I just adore colors and have what he calls instant color recall!!! I think in color and even dream in color.. LOL!! Over the years, I’ve learned several tips on how to make your home your own dream place. I would love to share those tips with you. I have also helped many women over the years in what I call “Decorating on a Budget” which we will talk about later in this blog.

Over the years, I have been blessed to have many different home themes such as Eclectic Country Modern, Country French with pine furniture, (we converted barns into a home in upper NY State.. we did this as a family project… it took years). It was very hard work, but very rewarding. We also had a sleek NY contemporary décor in a mainly cream/white and black palette at one time.

My late husband and I then moved to Charleston, SC area where we pioneered a church which started as a home church and our theme was “Rainbow Row” Charleston, SC in pastel colors, mixed with Charleston green which we loved. When my husband passed away, I moved to Florida to be close to part of my family and decided on a total new start. I purchased a darling model home on a tiny manmade lake in a gated community. I needed a completely new start with entirely new life, after the trauma from such a loss.

MY GRANDSON BRANDON IS NOW 16

Over the years, God had taught me the importance of inviting His presence into every area of my life and to ask not only His blessing upon our home, but to ask Him to name each room. As I began to pray about my new home I (which is very small), I felt it was to be named “Jehovah Shalom”. To my surprise, this was the same name He had given our home in Charleston, SC. It means God of Peace. How fitting. After losing my dear husband, I really needed peace. I wanted my home to reflect not only peace, but a feeling of being in the Holy Land. I had accumulated some different pieces through having our church that reminded me of stories in the bible or scriptures etc… When I met my new husband, Joe.. our love for God and the bible meshed as we started to add our own touches.

I love so many different types of themes, I used to change my decorations every two months, not only Seasonally, but different themes for each bedroom. A large part of our ministry was in counsel, especially those in leadership, who would come for weekends for healing and such. Our home had two extra guest rooms and we decorated one in an Ocean theme, and the other in a Mountain theme with total seasonal change-overs within those themes. This way those we ministered to had a choice. I had the vest and my late husband had the cap.  The rug with this set is costly, but it is so so cute.

While living in SC, we also totally redecorated our Master Bedroom every two months or so in completely different themes, from Barnyard complete with gorgeous quilted bedspread, a canopy over our bed with a huge gourd birdhouse that looked like a bee hive and roosters and farm animals galore what fun!!, Smokey Mountain which was my very favorite of all the themes… Both the Barnyard and Smokey Mountain were the complete theme including bathrobe for my husband and suitcases and quilted jacket for me from Patch Magic. I use the suitcases whenever I travel and I switch off between the Cabin Jacket and the Lighthouse one seasonally. As soon as September 1st hits.. I am ready for my Cabin Jacket, even though it might be 98 degrees in Florida!!! Barnyard was for September and Smokey Mountain October and November. The bedroom sets, rugs, curtains, valances, extra shams and bed pillows, and added pieces we purchased cost a fortune, but they were our present to each other for Christmas, Easter, Bird watching Day etc… Hahahhahaha a sacrifice, but the enjoyment well worth it. I even had the cabin mofif oven mitt!!

Our December/ Christmas theme was elegant, and included a sentimental large picture over our bed of a child on Christmas Morning with Tree and all. There was a sleigh on the top of our hutch and different size nutcrackers .. a Christmas tree table all lit in our room surrounded by a Christmas Village.

Romeo and Juliet was the theme for January and February with trellis’s and the color scheme was dark greens and burgundy. A tall knight in shining armor stood in the corner surrounded by plumroses, deep burgundy roses and vines. Lots of velvet and a canopy over the bed included in every room decoration.

We also loved our room in Springtime, created with bright yellow flowered bedspread from Ralph Lauren… white fleur dis lis, spring flowers, Battenburg Lace, and bird cages galore. We called it “England in Spring”. I loved the canopy for these months of white battenburg lace and wedding ivy. This was for March and April.

For May and June - A Lighthouse Theme along with a real lobster pot on top of our dresser hutch with an adorable life size lobster pot my husband talked the owner of a Lobster Restaurant into at a high price, in Maine ….a replica of a Lobster we purchased in a fishing village who looked so real, I used to jump in the middle of the night if I turned the light on too quickly! .. Here is the sight.. they are just about closing out of everything I have noticed.. We even have the jacket, and suitcase and all the rugs, curtains, dust ruffle extra bed pillows, shams etc..

I love this bowl with star in the center

this rug was on the side of the guest room bed

We also had our Master created in a darling Island theme with flamingos, colorful bedspread I adored, hanging parrots that looked so real, you surely expected them to say “Polly want a Cracker”! Artificial island fruit, yukalalee and surfboard in the corner

We also played music to go along with whatever theme we had in our home all year. .. I had cd’s galore for our pleasure. We also changed over our kitchen and greatroom seasonally too.  It was great fun for us and we were always talking about and looking with great expectation to the next theme !!

It has become too difficult for me to do this at present as our lifestyle has changed. This breaks my heart, as I love decoration my world in every way I possibly can, and I just love the change of seasons. However, I am so happy with our home at present, it seems to suit my husband and I well.

When I met my new husband he had a dream for place in Iowa (he is from there) where people could come and be taught and refreshed in the Lord. As we began to discuss this, I was reminded of the scripture about a place called “Elim” which was an Oasis surrounded by some shading Palms where the Israelites came to find rest and refreshing from the dry dessert during their sojourning. ? A place where we can let down our hair and find solace from the world. A place to get away from it all. So it seemed fitting that our ministry and our Greatroom would be called “the Oasis”

So, in the last few years that we have been married (it will be 4 years in October 2011), we have added some wonderful pieces to add to the Oasis atmosphere to include some stunning Biblical prints we purchased on our honeymoon. Isn’t that what our homes are supposed to be? Did you ever hear the expression a man’s home is his castle? I do think my husband feels that way about our home, it is a blending of the two of us which is the way it should be, with decorating pieces like “the sower of seed”, buffalo, bear and moose, prints of the wise virgins, and enchanting decorated lighted wine bottles my husband has made, and I have decorated along with burning rock oil lamps we have picked up mostly in the Mountains of GA, TN, NC. .. I say “we picked up.. however, I stayed warm in the car, while he forged rain and cold to pick them up”!! They are total treasures to me.

As a perfume designer, my hubby constantly keeps me in his newest seasonal creations such as perfume, and linen/auto/air fresheners, and such to keep our home in accord with the year.

Our Exclusive Vineyard Room/Linen/Auto freshener .. can also we used to
freshen work places, lockers, potpourri, closets and other uses!  $11.95 + S&H

He has also created a new fragrance line called the Vineyard to go along with our guest bedroom which is named “The Vineyard” in a French Vineyard theme. So, if you come to stay at our home most likely your guest room will smell like you are in a grapevine orchard with scents such as Muscadine Grape, or Champagne and Strawberries! God is the husbandman of the vineyard in the bible. We ask Him to watch over those who come into our homes in prayer, covering and love.

Anyway… enough for now.. enjoy the pictures of our home .. and I do love comments.. So, please email me with any questions or some sweet words.. at
